The Sylvania brand is part of the Feilo Sylvania Group and is one of the world's largest manufacturers of artificial light sources. It has a broad product offering that includes halogen, CFL, HID, LED and incandescent lamps, alongside luminaires manufactured at various locations across the globe.

1901 - Company founded in Boston as the Bay State Lamp Company

1090 - Name change Hygrade Incandescent Lamp Company

1924 - The Novelty Incandescent Lamp Company (Nilco) formed Sylvania Products Company to make receiving tubes for radio,
the time Sylvania was used

1932 - Merger forms Hygrade Sylvania Corporation

1939 - Launched linear fluorescent lamp a landmark product

1942 - Name change to Sylvania Electric products

1959 - The company merged with the General Telephone Company

1966 - Metal Arc lamp launched the forerunner of today's HID lamp technology

1968 - Expansion into Europe with manufacturing plants opening in Tienen (Belgium) and Erlangen (Germany)

1993 - SLI - consisting of Osram and Sylvania

1996 - Launched the very first halogen GU10 and the Hi SPot ES50 Halogen patented spiral faceted aluminized reflector and no transformer was needed

1997 - SLI takeover by Chicago Miniature Lamp Lamp

2007 - Company taken over by Havells India forming Havells Sylvania

2011 - GU10 LED the world’s first, European made true LED retrofit for 50W mains voltage GU10
